DG100: GENERAL APPLICATION

This example shows the general application of our DG100 IoT Edge Gateway.
DG100 is collecting data from three different types of sensors: wireless sensors over SimplRF protocol and wired sensors by using modbus RTU protocol. Wire sensors are read either directly or over the Decode EMU device.

DEVICES

  • DG100 IoT Edge Gateway
  • DSH101 SimplRF sensor hub
  • DWS100 wireless smart sensor
  • DMS100 modbusRTU smart sensor
  • EMU A3 analogue input measurement

DESCRIPTION

In this example you can see the general application of our IoT ecosystem. Central part is DG100 IoT Edge Gateway, programmable Linux based industrial computer with machina.io framework over it. Other parts are our Decode smart sensors and sensor hubs that work as concentrators for these sensors. This is just a small portion of it’s potential.

There are two wireless sensors (each collecting temperature, pressure and humidity data) that are sending data to the hub via RF, 868MHz. The Hub is connected to the gateway via USB. These sensors are communicating over SimplRF protocol (based on Texas Instruments, SimpliciTI protocol).
Same sensors but based on Wireless M-bus are also available. If this option is more suitable for you, than you should consider in this case an adequate USB hub, DSH102.

Besides wireless sensors there are two devices which are connected to the gateway over RS485 port. One of it is DECODE smart sensor with OLED display that communicates through modbusRTU. The other is the DECODE EMU A3, a device that is in configuration of two analogue inputs, current and voltage, and one for the PT100 probe. Measurement data are read from internal modbus table of EMU device.

The gateway is connected to the local network via an Ethernet port. Through the MQTT protocol, it sends the collected data to a broker, on a local or remote server, from where you can access, read, process, or display it in one of the clients that support this protocol. We used ThingsBoard for our example. For such an application the gateway should have preinstalled software bundles for modbusRTU, mqtt and SimplRF.

Of course, these are just some of the many features of our device that should guide you in considering how to use it. If you have any doubts as to whether a problem can be solved using this device, please contact us and we will be happy to assist you in finding the right solution.

If you think this can be a solution for your project do check product pages for products of interest. In any case do not hesitate to contact us for more info.

That’s all for now folks! Stay tuned for the upcoming application notes.

Yours,

Decode Marketing Team
